CBSN – Chicago Police Officer Charged with First-Degree Murder
November 24, 2015 – A veteran Chicago police officer is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 17 year old African American Laquan McDonald in October 2014.
Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez said “The officer’s actions were not justified and were not a proper use of deadly force.”
The criminal complaint against Officer Jason Van Dyke charged him with shooting Laquan McDonald “without legal justification and with the intent to kill or do great bodily harm.”
Houston defense attorney Nicole DeBorde discusses on CBSN the first degree murder charge, how the release of a police dash cam video of the scene could influence the case, and what officer Van Dyke’s defense might include.
